Pollution of soils, surface waters, and groundwater by a multitude of anthropogenic organic and inorganic compounds is a growing global concern. Within the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC 1253) “CAMPOS - Catchment as Reactors: Metabolism of Pollutants on the Catchment Scale”, supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, microbial pollutant turnover will be examined by applying metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and metaproteomics (omics) to field samples of relevant landscape elements: rivers (CAMPOS project P1), sub-catchments (P2), floodplains (P4), aquifers (P5), and soils (P6).
